KINGMAN - A Cedar Hills woman was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday for nearly killing a man who took her in after she lost her home.
Prosecutors said Cathy Halslip-Grantham, 56, used a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle to shoot the 52-year-old man six times at his home in the 9300 block of Dilligaf Road in the Cedar Hills area in May.
The
Mohave County Sheriff's Office
said at the time of Grantham's arrest that she was not happy with a third person sharing the property. That person was shot at during the incident but was not hit.
The property owner was hit in the chest, biceps, foot and three times in the hip. He showed no signs of life when rescuers arrived following the shooting but was revived by paramedics.
He lingered in critical condition at Sunrise Medical Center before recovering. Judge Derek Carlisle said Grantham would most likely be on the hook for $220,000 in medical bills but said that would be determined at a restitution hearing at a future date. Grantham is also ordered to repay $10,000 to the county's victim compensation fund.
