4-H shooting sports course set
2/3/2013 6:00:00 AM
Training for rifle, shotgun, muzzleloading and archery will be offered in the shooting Sports Instructor Certification Course set for Feb. 22-24 at the Seven Mile Hill Range.
Only one or two of these courses are held annually statewide and this is the first time the course has been offered in Mohave County, said Gerald Olson, Mohave County's 4-H Youth Development agent. Arizona 4-H policy requires that, prior to being recognized as 4-H Shooting Education instructors, volunteers must complete a Shooting Education Instructors Certification Course. Mohave County 4-H is seeking additional adult volunteers to assist with its Mohave Sharpshooters 4-H Club. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age.
The objectives of 4-H Shooting Sports Education program are to:
Learn to practice safe and responsible use of firearms;
Learn and practice the basic marksmanship skills;
Learn to develop self-discipline, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior, and;
Become certified as a 4-H Shooting Sports Education Instructor in the 4-H program.
Additional information and applications are available by going on line at http://extension.arizona.edu/4h/content/event/4-h-shooting-sports-instructor-certification-course or by contacting the Mohave County Cooperative Extension Office at (928) 753-3788.
Application deadline is Tuesday.
About two-thirds of the homes in the U.S. have firearms. Exposure to safe and responsible handling is vital to preventing accidents at home or next door, Olson said, adding that shooting is the second most popular international sport behind track and field and it is nearly unique in being a lifetime sport.
