A Kingman man who was spotted driving erratically in northern Kingman was arrested Wednesday morning after he struck the left side of a
Mohave County Sheriff's Office
patrol vehicle.
Deputies arrested Christopher Covington for felony endangerment and misdemeanor criminal damage early Wednesday after receiving a report of a silver Saturn station wagon driving erratically and striking a road sign near Northern Avenue and Van Nuys Street, said MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter.
The person who called 911 also told dispatchers that there was a child in the vehicle.
Deputies began searching the area when an Environmental Rural Area Clean-Up officer reported that he saw the vehicle turn south onto Lomita Street, Carter said.
"Deputies staged in an area at the intersection of East Potter Avenue and North Lomita Street," Carter said. "Shortly thereafter, deputies observed the vehicle traveling southbound toward the intersection at approximately 40 mph."
As the 23-year-old Covington approached the intersection, he tried to turn onto Potter Avenue but instead crashed into a deputy's patrol vehicle. Carter said he attempted to back the vehicle up but collided with the ERACE officer's vehicle.
Covington had dropped off the 7-year-old boy who had been traveling with him at school prior to the arrest, Carter said.
The person who originally called 911 told deputies that the vehicle cut her off on Northern Avenue, barely missed rear-ending a garbage truck and took out a yellow sign on the roadway.
MCSO took a blood sample from Covington, which will be submitted to the
Department of Public Safety
Crime Lab to see if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
