Hardy returns to GVFD board
4/22/2013 6:00:00 PM
GOLDEN VALLEY - Curt Hardy was appointed to the Golden Valley Fire District governing board Wednesday, winning on a 3-1 vote following an executive session.
Board member Steven Robinson made the motion to select Hardy, who previously served as the chairman of the GVFD board of directors. Jim Kanelos offered the second. Rhonda Brooks, who supported Duncan Borden, cast the dissenting vote.
Vic Colvin, Jack Hommel, Stephen Smarr and Louis Tranka also sought the appointment.
The board held a second executive session to determine the fate of the 4,369-square-foot Station No. 11 built in 1979 at 2809 N. Mayer Road and the GVFD administrative office at 3327 N. Mayer Road. The board may consider those properties expendable when the new 12,000-square-foot fire station at 3480 N. Bacobi Road becomes operational.
The board chose to table the discussion until their May meeting. It's possible one or both properties will be sold.
GVFD Fire Chief Thomas O'Donohue said that construction progress on the new station is on schedule, with approximately 75 percent of the concrete already poured. Tile is being set, the cabinets came in, and landscape plants have arrived and will be planted by inmate labor.
