Local senator joins fight against expansion of Medicaid
4/26/2013 6:00:00 AM
ARIZONA - Arizona Sen. Kelli Ward, R-Lake Havasu City, joined Senate President Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, and four other legislators on the Arizona Capitol lawn to announce the creation of "Restoring Freedom: Arizonans against the expansion of Medicaid."
The legislators were joined by representatives from the Goldwater Institute, a conservative think tank, and the anti-tax group Americans for Prosperity. The new organization's goal is to present what it called the "detrimental effects Medicaid expansion will have on the economy and healthcare system in the state." Ward is an outspoken critic of Gov. Jan Brewer's plan to accept federal funding for the expansion of the state's Medicaid program.
