On Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the age of 101, Mary Louise Odle passed away in Golden Valley at the Bal-Tip Assisted Living Home, where she received excellent loving care. She was cared for by her daughter, Daisy, in Kingman for many years prior to needing skilled care.
She is survived by her four children; Daisy L. Gardner, 74, of Kingman, Charles T. Gardner, 73, of Great Falls, Mont., Robert L. Gardner, 72, of Flagstaff and Bernice A. Gardner,69, of Rogue River, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She left Texas to attend college, met and married a cowboy and cattle rancher, Kenneth C. Gardner from Hackberry, who was the children's father and preceded her in death.
Mary's second husband, Robert Odle, a rancher in the Kingman area, also preceded her in death. Her stepdaughter Judy Weaver, of Flagstaff, Robert's daughter also survives her.
Mary went back to college in the 1940s while raising four children as a single parent, graduated with a teaching degree and taught school until her retirement. Mary got her master's degree in Ashland, Ore. She enjoyed playing bridge with her Oregon friends. She was an accomplished musician, loved dancing, was an avid sports fan, and she and her husband Robert enjoyed going to horse races during their retirement years in Phoenix. While ranching, Mary pitched right in and learned to ride horses, garden, cook for ranch hands, etc. Always gregarious, Mary made friends easily and was loved by all who knew her.
She will be buried next to her husband, Robert, in Phoenix, on Friday, Nov. 1. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., with burial at 11 a.m.
