Guest column: Freedom, big government can't co-exist
11/7/2013 6:00:00 AM
The only thing that has been achieved in Obamacare is the perpetuation of a statist autocratic federal leviathan that's only increasing power and authority over the American people.
Obamacare is merely the mechanism - the means by which they will continue to encroach upon your day-to-day liberties.
What really exposes the ideological underpinnings from Obama and the Democrats is that the abject catastrophic disaster that has been the Obamacare exchange rollout has not fazed them one bit. Democrats knew the Obamacare that was sold to the American people could never function. Now, with full implementation weeks away, we find the logistics are dysfunctional as well.
As Sen. Ted Cruz alluded, "This is only going to get worse." Three years, $90 million and what? We got nothing! Only an egomaniacal government can think this way. Only government can force you into a system that does not allow you to sign up! Only government thinks it can suspend the laws of economics in order to pursue a relentless political agenda.
Even with complete failure, the thought process of Democrats in Washington remains fixed. It's clear that Democrats recognize more than even most Republicans what's at stake here.
The Democrats' unwavering commitment to this law is the emphasis that brings this all together.
Healthcare is the Trojan horse through which we will become a society where liberty is only that which the government decides to afford us at any given time. Where rights and freedoms are determined by those in power and the only determination of that power is the ballot box, not the constitutional guarantees that the founding fathers left for us, not the promise of a government that is limited in scope and protects, above all else, the freedom of every individual.
Obamacare isn't about healthcare; it's about healthcare control. The reason Democrats view this as the sine qua non [without which, there is nothing] is because it allows a progressive government to do so much more. This allows the taxation of inactivity and the creation of policy objectives through an unlimited taxation power.
There will be no end to "do this or pay a fine."
Without limitations on taxation, the coercive tactics of a statist authoritarian government go unchecked. Tell me where this administration cannot go? There is no issue where they will not tread because of the structural protections of the Constitution and the separation of powers. It no longer exists.
For the first time in a very long time, we find ourselves in a fight for real liberty. You can't have big government and individual liberty at the same time. Freedom is not some gift from government. What do you think makes us different? Why do you think we live like we do? This is the greatest time to be alive in the greatest country on Earth because of liberty and freedom. It's yours; you were born with it! But once you lose it, you will never get it back.
