Marijuana, child abuse charges lead list of Mohave County indictments

Thomas Raymond Ogden

KINGMAN - In a move designed to enhance security and save on transportation costs, all persons in the custody of the Mohave County jail will be arraigned at the jail rather than in Mohave County Superior Court.

Newly appointed Superior Court Commissioner Kenneth Gregory of the Bullhead City law firm of Gregory & Elias will handle all arraignments at the jail, with cases assigned to Superior Court judges Rick Williams, Steven Conn or Derek Carlisle.

People who are not in custody will be arraigned in court.

Arraignments are among the first steps in a criminal case. Defendants are given a copy of the charges against them and enter a plea.

Last Thursday, the Mohave County Grand Jury indicted 22 people, including Thomas Raymond Ogden and Jessica Rose Berry, who were arrested last week on child abuse and marijuana charges in Kingman.

The couple and their two young children reportedly lived in a home with no running water for about eight months. Law enforcement seized marijuana and paraphernalia that was allegedly within reach of their children, ages 5 and 3.

Both Ogden and Berry face two felony charges of child abuse by domestic violence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Their arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in front of Gregory at the jail. The case will be assigned to Conn.
