Woman with car trouble fought for her freedom

MOHAVE VALLEY - A woman whose car overheated on Highway 95 at Boundary Cone Road late Friday afternoon managed to fight off an alleged kidnapper.

Juan Briones Sanchez, 52, was arrested on a kidnapping charge after Mohave County Sheriff's deputies and Fort Mohave Tribal police officers responded to the Valley View Medical Center regarding a 32-year-old patient who had defensive wounds on her hands and arms.

The woman said she pulled into a dirt lot on the highway when her car began to overheat. After she lifted the hood, she said a man driving a gold GMC Sonoma pulled up and asked her if she was OK.

He left after she said she was fine and help was on the way, but she said he returned three more times before the man allegedly grabbed her and tried to pull her into his vehicle.

She said the man drove away after she fought back.

Deputies located Sanchez in the area of Canal Street and Boundary Cone Road at about 7:35 p.m.

He reportedly told deputies he stopped and asked the lady if she was OK. He said he always stops for stranded motorists.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Sanchez faces a charge of kidnapping - apprehension of injury.
