GOLDEN VALLEY - Paul Bissonette Jr., center, smiles after being presented an Outstanding Achievement Recognition Certificate by Arizona House Majority Leader David M. Gowan Sr., left, and state Rep. Sonny Borrelli during the Submarine Memorial Dedication Saturday at VFW Post 2555 in Golden Valley.
Bissonette received the Arizona House honor, signed by Arizona Speaker Andy Tobin and Borrelli, for his heroism while assisting in the efforts to save the life of 92-year-old Charlotte Sowards, who was trapped in a burning home on Dec. 21, 2012.
According to Borrelli, two others (Golden Valley Fire Chief Thomas O'Donohue and the late Robert Davies) had previously been cited for their heroism during the incident, but Bissonette had never received recognition.
Borrelli said Sowards is alive today because of the unselfish fast action and bravery by the three individuals.
