Men gather info at KRMC health fair

KINGMAN - Like many men, Leonard Fuller puts off going to the doctor for his medical updates. When the Kingman Medical Regional Center Men's Health and Nutrition Fair took place last week, Fuller used the opportunity to get a quick checkup.

"I read about this in the newspaper, so I decided to come by and get my blood pressure and glucose checked," Fuller said. "I guess I used this as a quick once-over."

While Fuller was getting his glucose checked by Outpatient Diabetic Program Coordinator Jennifer Hardy, she explained, "It's important to check your blood on a regular basis to make sure you are not developing diabetes, or if you have developed it, getting the help you need."

This was just one of the 30-plus organizations that offered similar screenings and information based on men's health for the 130 men in attendance. This was the fourth year of the men's event.

Scott Kern, public relations specialist for KRMC and organizer of the event, said, "This entire program is based on helping men become healthier."

KRMC also offers events focused on wellness for women, seniors and children.

"Having the men's fair was the logical thing to do after we had the other three events," Kern said. "These types of events give people a better chance for us to educate masses and today help men get a better handle on their health."
