Angry bikers to converge on Kingman
They will protest businesses with ‘no colors’ policy

Erin Taylor
Miner Staff Reporter

KINGMAN - More than 1,500 motorcyclists from around Arizona are expected to roll into Kingman this weekend.

The riders will be in town for the bimonthly meeting of the Arizona Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs (ACMC). The riders also plan on stopping by several bars that have recently instituted a "no colors" policy.

The riders will be equipped with forms that will allow them to document any incidents in which they are turned away because of what they are wearing, said ACMC Chairman Still Ray of Prescott.

Ray said members of the Arizona State Gang Task Force have been threatening to pull liquor licenses from bars and restaurants unless they institute a "no colors" policy.

"The problem is that the gang task force is using the state liquor board as a weapon and that's not right," Ray said.

Ray added that the riders aren't out to cause a riot but rather exercise their right to lawful assembly.

Bars and restaurants on the planned protest route include Mad Dog's, Chuy's, Cerbat Lanes and the Sportsman's bar. When contacted, some said they were aware of Saturday's activities.

Deborah Barry, owner of Mad Dog's, said she instituted a "no colors" policy more than a month ago because of the surveillance being conducted by police in her parking lot. Because the bikers were being watched and photographed, they were less likely to drink, which led to a drop in revenue, and ultimately, the ban on colors, she said.

Barry said she was never threatened to have her liquor license revoked if she didn't ban colors.

"Colors" are considered any patch or insignia on a vest that would identify an affiliation with a particular motorcycle club.

Ray said that riders are being tagged as criminals or gang members because of their association with motorcycles.

"It's a way of life," he said. "I resent it when I am considered a criminal because I'm in a motorcycle club."

Ray said up to 2,000 riders could roll into Kingman by Saturday. He said he was aware of a couple of groups of more than 400 riders coming from Phoenix.

Ray said the riders have been invited to take part in the Veteran's Day parade in North Kingman Saturday morning. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the corner of North Bond Street and Northern Avenue.

The ACMC meeting will be held at the American Legion Post on Oak Street at noon.

What I don't understand is why are these bikers going into bars while ridding their bikes? I know it is their right but riding a bike takes skill and having your head on right without it being fogged up with booze. I say if a biker wants to drink and ride their bike they should be pulled over and given a breath test and suffer the consequences before they kill me or themselves. I have had many motorcycles but never drank and rode for obvious reasons. I see colors in Wally World along with idiots who wear their pants below their rear ends and no one kicks them out. Colors I can cope with but the pant thing has to go. Motorcycle clubs contribute to our economy and we had better be careful as we could loose them coming to Kingman.

I've been a biker for over 45 years and never had any trouble with a business that said "NO COLORS". It is their right as a business owner who they allow into their establishment.

I resent these people coming from Phoenix and other towns to try to force their thoughts on the bikers of Kingman.Take care of your own back yards first and leave Kingman alone, but leave your money in the hotels, motels and restaurants. NO COLORS mean NO COLORS..get it?

Good post. Look, the no colors is aimed at the 1% outlaw guys, and for a good reason. These idiot gang bikers will do anything to stick up for their colors, even kill someone...maybe even you. Screw them, we don't need them around to with their rat pack intimidation nonsense. All of the outlaw motorcycle gangs are going to find it harder and harder to get away with their BS.

To Real Biker;

You are sadly mistaken. Let a business post a sign saying no Blacks Allowed, No Hispanics Allowed or any other such [deleted] and find out how long they can keep it up there and actually enforce it.

I wonder if Chuy's talked to the police to see if they could lighten up before they went off the deep end with a no-colors policy. I doubt it, and I also doubt the policy will have any effect other than to drive business elsewhere. Looks like the police are the issue here.

Just one question..... If a firefighter, or a soldier, or law enforcement personnel.... just to name a few were to come into these bars, would they be told they couldn't wear their "colors", such as brotherhood of firefighter tees, fraterntal order of police officer shirts, Proud parent of a USA Soldier shirt, Oh yea, AND their favorite sports team shirts, as these are all forms of "colors". These are all ways of showing support, faith, and unity for organizations/people that are so STRONGLY supported!

OK ENOUGH folks Sounds like NO ONE here remembers a little thing called "The Bill of Rights" Amendment 1

Congress shall make No Laws respecting an establishment of Religion,or prohibiting the free exercise there of,OR abridging the freedom of speech,or the press; or the Right of the people peacably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

or has this right been struck down by the local gang task force and the bumkins of the kpd ???? I understand that the idiots that work for the far left wing obama don't want any of the people to have any rights any longer but "The Bill Of Rights" are still worth fighting for be it in the streets or in your kangaroo courts ,You choose!!!!!!!

Joe the plumber-a.k.a.-Richard Knoggin! I SAID that if the aforementioned Business Owner wanted to hang a "No Colors" sign, that most certainly is her right. It's her business.

But, if you'll just take a minit to READ the text of my post...you'll see that I stated that it was/is WRONG FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TO GOAD HER INTO DOING IT BECAUSE THEY ARE ILLEGALLY STAKING OUT HER ESTABLISHMENT & WATCHING HER PATRONS. Also, please note that I stated that it was/is a CONSTITUTIONAL issue. READ THE TEXT. OR, read the Constitution.

If law enforcement is willing to brush aside the Constitution for 3 to 4 % of the population because they ride motorcycles, in a town that is nationally famous for it's METH problem, who do you think they're going to go after next...or is that not a concern of yours? Maybe it will be when an officer, in the name of "safety" knocks on, or kicks in your door, seeking your weapons...

By the way...they've already done this in New Orleans.

I have been in the bar industry for almost 20 years. I ride 365 days a year. Between bartending and security work, truthfully, NO indcidents with "colors". One of my close friends was married to the president of a club in Iowa. She ran a biker bar and she had few incidents. To be honest, working as a bouncer I had more bs with domestic crap then with ANY biker. I have served some of the most infamous of clubs. For the most part they have a few drinks, tip well and move on. So, for those of you who choose to loose there business, to bad for you.

A friend of mine is in a bike club who wear colors. His colors stand for helping others. The club which is very well known in many states has never been involved in any crimes. They do good deeds for many. But now this person and this club will not help this town. If they can't wear colors in support for what they stand for, than they have no desire to stay here. You put up a sign NO COLORS allowed and assume only bad bikers are around. Now what about those who stand for good. Maybe I should put up a sign that says NO Mexicans allowed or no Blacks because there are some bad seeds who don't follow the law. Oh wait, that would be discrimination.
