Minutemen to ask Kingman to pass illegal immigration relief ordinance

GOLDEN VALLEY - Hazelton, Pa., was among the first cities in the nation to pass an ordinance that came down hard on landlords and employers who harbor or aid illegal immigrants. Now, a group of concerned citizens is preparing to ask Kingman City Council to follow suit.

The Mohave County Minutemen will approach the Council on Monday with a copy of the Hazelton ordinance and ask the city to enact it.

"This isn't a matter of racial prejudice or even a matter of illegal immigration. It's a matter of national security," said Gianluca Zanna, a MCMM member.

The ordinance the Minutemen will deliver to the Kingman Council would prohibit employers from hiring illegal immigrants, and require landlords to ask for proof of legal residency before renting to anyone.

The ordinance states in Section 2: "That unlawful employment, the harboring of illegal aliens in dwelling units in the City of Hazelton, and crime committed by illegal aliens harm the health, safety and welfare of authorized U.S. workers and legal residents of the City of Hazelton.

"Illegal immigration leads to higher crime rates, subjects our hospitals to fiscal hardship and legal residents to substandard quality of care, contributes to other burdens on public services, increasing their cost and diminishing their availability to legal residents, and diminishes our overall quality of life."
